Trojan War 500BC

The Trieme was the main Greek vessel of war during the Trojan war. The Trireme was driven by three rows of oars. While fast under oar, this type of vessel was not as manueverable under sail. Its main weapon was the "ram." A copper covered piece of hardened wood that was actually an extension of the keel. The captain of the ship would try to manuever the ship into position to ram the side of the hull of its oppenent. At this point the Greeks soldiers would storm aboard the enemy ship and put all to the sword.
