The Beagle was an English barque built in 1817 and originally armed with 8 cannons. She was modified in 1831, to serve as Charles Darwin's floating scientific observatory on his historic voyage to the Galapagos Islands. During her five year voyage he wrote his treaty on The Origin of the Species.
