The original USF Constellation started her active life in 1798 and was withdrawn from sevice only in 1955. Her missions were various: during her active service she seized numerous ships while defending the Hawaiian Islands against annexation by England in 1845 and 1849. She was also the first US warship to visit China in 1842.

Our model, U.S.S. Constellation was launched at the Gosport Navy Yard in Norfolk, Virginia in 1854. Bearing the same name as the famous frigate of 1797, she is a sloop-of-war (this means she carried her guns on one deck) of 22 guns. Her original battery was comprised primarily of 8" muzzle loading shell guns. She displaces approximately 1400 tons and is the largest all-sail sloop-of-war built by the US Navy. Constellation is "ship" rigged: each of her three masts carries squaresails with a fore'n aft sail or "spanker" on her mizzen mast. She set 20,000 square feet of sails and is the last all-sail warship built by the U.S. Navy.


Today she brings back glorious memories of the past to tens of thousands of tourists that visit her each year in Baltimore's Inner harbor.

This kit features wooden planks, strakes and masts in various types of exotic woods. The hull is doubled planked. Brass hardware such as eyebolts, stanchions, rings, hinges and more highly detailed brass parts such as the figurehead and stern parts add realism. Rigging line in various weights is used to rig the pre-sewn cloth sails which are ready for rigging. Detailed written and photo manuals, with numbered cross-references for each manual adid in assembly. All deck accessories are assembled from choice wooden components. Taking the time to do the detail work will give, a truly realistic boat model and very rewarding building experience.
